A Kenduri is a community gathering that aims to receive blessings from the spirits of nature and the land while the community is in congregation, whether it is to celebrate a wedding ceremony, showing up for collective care and solidarity over a death of someone in the community, sharing grief and labor with disaster victims — it also can be a gathering to express our community strength in the form of art like poetry, singing, dancing. Ultimately, the essence of Kenduri is rooted in connection.
At the heart of these gatherings is Gotong-Royong, the practice of community working together. It’s about spending time together, sharing labor, and ensuring the success of our communal activities. And, of course, enjoying the food, music, and conversation that make these moments unforgettable.
