Wintringham: Art Space

Wintringham is an Australian not-for-profit welfare organisation specialising in the housing, support and care of older people who are experiencing or vulnerable to homelessness.

The team of over 1000 employees currently deliver services in Victoria and Tasmania.

Pursuing our mission to eliminate elderly homelessness, Wintringham has developed a comprehensive suite of services. Our responses are adaptable to the range of issues individuals face.

The artists featured in the Wintringham Art Space Exhibition are Wintringham residents and clients aged 50 years and over. Many have experienced, or been vulnerable to, homelessness and may also be living with complex life experiences, including mental health challenges, dementia, addiction, social isolation or other barriers that have made it difficult to access traditional aged care and community services.

Through Wintringham’s Recreation Program, residents and clients are supported to participate in a wide range of recreational and creative activities. One of the key initiatives within this program is Wintringham’s long-running Annual Art Show, which provides participants with the opportunity to create, exhibit and celebrate their artwork.

Art and creative expression play an important role in supporting connection, wellbeing and self-expression. For many participants, the process of making art provides a sense of purpose, pride and achievement, while also allowing staff to build meaningful relationships with residents and clients through shared creative experiences.

Wintringham also works with Art Therapy students from La Trobe University, who assist residents in developing and creating their artwork as part of the program.

The exhibition includes works submitted across a range of mediums, reflecting the diverse experiences, perspectives and creative voices of Wintringham residents and clients. Selected artworks may also be featured in Wintringham’s annual calendar and promotional cards for the following year.
